The Donald and Astrid Monson Education Fund is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization supported by donations that fund worthy community projects for the people of Oʻahu, through grants and the Annual Donald and Astrid Monson Community Action Award.

The mission of the Donald and Astrid Monson Education Fund is
  1. to promote political responsibility of representative government by sponsoring and coordinating educational programs for the general public in regard to civic needs, governmental processes, and the results of actions taken by states and counties; and
  2. to develop and maintain a repository of information of assistance to persons or organizations engaged in educational programs regarding civic responsibility and the process of representative government; provided such activities are strictly limited to charitable and educational purposes within the meaning of Section 501 (C) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code as amended.

The Donald and Astrid Monson Education Fund (Education Fund) receives grants, and donations from the general public or other sources. By administering and distributing these contributions, grants and gifts, the Education Fund primarily supports its mission with two major activities:

  1. by providing an annual award to an individual or organization who has made the year’s outstanding contribution toward or involving public interest planning, housing or environmental issues (if you wish to have more information on the award or wish to nominate an individual or organization for the award, please click on Monson Award, above); and
  2. by funding grants to promote projects that enhance the general welfare of the people of Oahu, protect its environment and improve the quality of life of its citizens.

If you have such a project that needs funding, we encourage you to apply for a grant.

These grants may be applied for year-round and are typically given as reimbursements to the grantee, after providing appropriate receipts and reports. (For more information on the guidelines and eligibility requirements for grants and application forms to request a grant, please click on the link to Guidelines & Eligibility Requirements for Grants).
